Lessons from P!nk!
What I learned about business from watching P!nk in concert (two nights in a row)
I’m not sure how it took me until the age of 55 to attend my first P!nk concert (last year) but I made up for it by buying another ticket to go back the next night for my second P!nk concert. And you know what? I will go and see her again and again every chance I get. I’m even planning a Midlife Launch Retreat around P!nk’s concert at the MetLife Stadium on October 3rd.
What an extraordinary woman and performer. My mind was absolutely blown by her talent and by the talent of each and every musician, dancer and performer on stage with her.
I had watched the “P!nk All I Know So Far” documentary which is what made me want to see her in concert. My expectations were high but, damn, they were SOOOOOO exceeded.
Here are the life/business/legacy lessons I learned as I watched her on stage.
She exudes pure JOY and GRATITUDE for the work that she gets to do. She thanked the audience multiple times for allowing her and her band and her dancers to do what they love to do. It is really extraordinary to see such JOY in action. While I realize that we can’t all be rock stars, it did hit me that we can all consider JOY as an aspect of success. As business owers, we can CHOOSE to do work that lights us up and infuses us with joy. So that THAT is how we show up in our work.
She creates an extraordinary experience for her audience. I went to both shows by myself but I felt completely immersed in a joyful, inspiring, creative, playful, almost divine experience. For two hours, I felt pure joy and gratitude surging through me. It made me think about how I want my clients to feel when they work with me whether 1:1 or in a retreat experience. I want my excitement and creativity and joy in my work to be contagious. I want to set an example of being a business owner that is inspiring to the women who choose to work with me.
P!nk brings together her multiple skills and talents in such a unique way. She is an amazingly talented singer and songwriter. She is a great storyteller. And then to top it all off, she is a force of nature when she does silks. When she flies around the stadium at the end of the show, it is the most incredible thing to witness. I have seen a lot of concerts in my life. I have never witnessed ANYTHING like this. I tried a silks workshop a few years ago and it is one of the most challenging things I have ever done. So to see her mastery of it - WHILE SINGING - blew my mind. As soon as I deal with some health issues, I’m going to start silks classes as I want to challenge myself to become strong enough to master it to the highest level that I can.
She has surrounded herself with THE most talented group of individuals imaginable. Her connection to them is palpable. They are like family to her. It made me think that this is what I want to create in my own business as I create a team of people who are all doing the work that ONLY they can do. P!nk by herself would be amazing. But P!nk with this group of musicians, dancers and performers was out-of-this-world amazing. Who could you team up with where the collaboration becomes even greater than the individuals working alone?
It takes HARD WORK to become the very best version of yourself whether in life or business. Even if you LOVE what you do, it takes time to become a true master of what it is that you do. I can only imagine the hours and hours of preparation, exercise and practice it takes for P!nk and everyone on stage with her to show up at that level for two hours every night for the months and months of a tour. That is what it will take to do your very best work. So choose something that you care deeply about and that lights you up so that you are more than willing to put in the hours it will take to become masterful at it.
I am so very excited to see P!nk again in concert in October. I’m hosting an intimate retreat for up to 3 women in their 50’s who are launching their first business. In addition to going to see the concert together we will do a Silks workshop together. The photo below is me when I did a Silks workshop YEARS ago! It requires you to use muscles that you don’t even know exist ;-)
If you know of any women in their 50’s who are ready to start their first business and who might enjoy coming to New York to plan their launch with me and with P!nk, please have them connect with me at www.themidlifelaunch.co/contact
